Yesterday, reports emerged of an elephant in the Galgamuwa–Nanneriya area suspected to have been shot in the head. Wildlife officers visited the location to inspect the situation and informed veterinary teams. However, as no veterinarians were available to arrive at the scene at that time, treatment was scheduled for today. Unfortunately, the injured elephant had died during the night.
Previously, another elephant in Palukadawala also died after being shot in the head, and the perpetrators have still not been identified or punished. As long as such crimes go unpunished, these brutal acts will continue.
