A wild elephant in the Herathhalmillewa area of Kebitigollewa has died after getting caught in an illegal electric fence. This elephant was a tusker known to roam in the Kebitigollewa region.
On the lower left is a photograph of the elephant taken when it was alive by photographer Priyanjana Dilminth.
Although we have previously highlighted the value of these male wild elephants that die due to illegal electric wires, it has still not resulted in meaningful change.
