Elephant Dies After Falling into Well in Galkadawala

Precious Life Lost Due to System Failures‼️

Yesterday (26th), a wild elephant fell into a well in the Galkadawala area, which falls under the Rambewa Divisional Secretariat in the Anuradhapura District. Although villagers immediately alerted the Department of Wildlife Conservation, they were unable to rescue the elephant due to the lack of necessary machinery.

As a result, the elephant is believed to have suffered internal injuries and complications caused by the water, ultimately leading to its death around 3:00 PM today (26th).

However, this was a life that could have been saved. While we understand the department operates with limited resources, proper allocation of funds and timely procurement of essential equipment are absolutely necessary to prevent such avoidable tragedies in the future
