Support for Mr. Kumara’s Elephant Safety Work

There is hardly anyone today who does not know of the service rendered by Mr. Kumara. His efforts are recognized not only in Sri Lanka but also by people around the world. In appreciation of his tireless nighttime duties, a donation of high-visibility safety jackets and vests was made to him on May 13th. These items will be particularly useful in the coming months, as elephants are expected to resume their seasonal road crossings.

Mr. Kumara has saved countless human and elephant lives from potential accidents. His role often requires him to remain on the roads, both in the early morning and late at night, to alert drivers and guide them to allow safe passage for elephants. To ensure his safety during these critical moments, especially in low-light conditions, he was provided with reflective jackets that make him clearly visible to oncoming vehicles. These jackets will also provide warmth during chilly mornings.

The donation was facilitated by Mr. Sean Whyte, a kind supporter from the United Kingdom. Though he is not a local, his deep concern for the wellbeing of Sri Lanka’s elephants is evident in this generous gesture. Rather than complex interventions, he appreciates the simple yet impactful solution offered by “Elephant Kumara.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Sean Whyte for his thoughtful contribution.
