Two Wild Elephants Electrocuted in Diwulapelessa

Another wild elephant has died after getting entangled in an electric fence set up to protect a cultivation, near a paddy field in the Ulhitiya Oya reserve area, close to the Diwulapelessa Palanghandiya junction, last night (11).


On the previous day as well, a wild elephant died under similar circumstances in the Walimadaaya area near the Hebarawa reservoir bund, which belongs to the Diwulapelessa police division, due to human activities.


The post-mortems of the two wild elephants were conducted today, the 12th, by the Central Province wildlife veterinary officer Mr. Akalanka Pinidiya and a team of veterinarians, during which it was revealed that the animals died due to electrocution.
